Toy Drive to support Bay County, FL Boys & Girls Club

Moran Environmental Recovery and Global Diving & Salvage Join Together to Support Children Affected by Hurricane Michael

Since shortly after Hurricane Michael made U.S. landfall in October, MER has had a team working with Global Diving and Salvage, as part of the USCG’s ESF-10 response effort in the Panama City area. In an effort to support the communities in which they are responding, the MER team initiated a local TOY DRIVE to support the children of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Bay County. The Club had four facilities to serve the kids of the Panama City area. One location was completely destroyed in the storm, and two were heavily damaged. They are currently operating out of one Club with all the children coming in from the other facilities to receive support, services, and programming.

MER and Global Diving & Salvage have joined together to sponsor the toy drive with the support of several other companies and agencies who are also on the response team. MER team members at Resource Centers in Savannah, GA, Charleston, SC, Jacksonville, Atlantic Beach, and Pompano Beach, FL have launched a campaign to collect unwrapped toys at each location. The Hilton Hotel Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa in Miramar Beach, Florida runs a toy drive each year, and this year they have dedicated their efforts to support our campaign. All of the toys collected will be distributed to the families to be given as holiday gifts.

Global Diving & Salvage has created a ‘Gofundme’ campaign to provide those who wish to give the opportunity to donate to the cause. Individuals who wish to be part of this initiative started by our Hurricane Michael Response Team to support the children of the Panama City area during this holiday season, then please visit Panama City Toy Drive to make a donation.Money collected will go toward the purchase of toys and other essential items to be donated to local families for the holidays.

The Boys and Girls Clubs in the Panama City area are in the process of rebuilding. In addition to structural damage, they lost such items as sports equipment, video game components, art supplies, games, and other items necessary to provide the children with the programming they had previously delivered. MER and Global Diving & Salvage have each committed to a corporate donation to be made directly to the Club to support them in rebuilding their inventory for youth programming. Our goal is to really bring the initiative to scale with the participation and support of our employees, clients, partners, and friends.
