Monumental effort to map Alaska shorelines nearing completion
1.5.2015
ShoreZone in Alaska covers 86% of the coastline
The ShoreZone Partnership has recently received funding from our partners to continue work on imaging and mapping Alaska’s coastline. This funding will contribute to an imaging survey for Norton Sound; mapping of parts of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta and western Alaska Peninsula; and streaming video conversion for the web. This will bring the overall ShoreZone picture for Alaska to 86% of the coastline imaged, 85% mapped or funded for mapping, and another 2% funded for imaging.
Thanks to the NOAA Alaska Region Collaboration Team, National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Alaska Region, NMFS Ted Stevens Marine Research Institute, the National Park Service, the National Wildlife Refuge System, Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge, and Prince William Sound Regional Citizens Advisory Council for the funding to continue this great work. Special thanks to NMFS Alaska Region for leading this effort.
